Millard Quarry
The PICOR Precision Train Loading System designed and erected for Pennsy Supply Company’s Millard Quarry in Annville, PA is now operational.
Commissioned on September 11, 2008 the newly constructed rail loading system at Millard Quarry is the first of its kind in the United States. This revolutionary railcar loading system has the capability to load 3,000 tons-per-hour and can load 100 ton railcars of limestone to one-half percent accuracy. This innovative system has the flexibility to load multiple materials in one train without cross-contaminating the products. If product remains in the surge bin after a desired number of railcars have been loaded; the cleanout conveyor can transverse under the weigh bin to allow any excess material left in the surge bin to be expelled. A new grade of limestone can then be added for loading into the remaining block of railcars within the train.
The Train Precision Loading System controls include a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) that performs all calculations for the batch loading process and stores all data about each individual car within the train. Once loading is complete, the data is transferred from the PLC to a personal computer which generates a train manifest file. With this technology the quarry has the ability to efficiently load different grades of limestone all in the same train, and keep track of which product is contained within a car. Pennsy Supply Co, headquarted in Harrisburg, PA is a part of The Mid-Atlantic Group of Oldcastle Materials and is one of the leading suppliers of aggregate, concrete and asphalt throughout southcentral Pennsylvania.
